Sydney, Jan 1: Julien’s Auctions has announced an extraordinary event, “Celebrating Bob Dylan: The Aronowitz Archive, T Bone Burnett, & More,” to take place at the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, on Saturday, January 18, 2025. This landmark auction will feature 60 exceptional items, 50 of which come from the personal collection of esteemed American rock journalist Al Aronowitz, who is celebrated for introducing Bob Dylan to The Beatles.
Among the treasures are two pages of three progressive typewritten drafts of the lyrics to Dylan’s iconic song “Mr. Tambourine Man,” estimated to fetch between $400,000 and $600,000, and an early oil painting by Dylan from 1968, with an estimated value of $200,000 to $300,000. Additional highlights include a 1963 handbill from Dylan’s first major headline performance at Town Hall in New York City (estimated at $1,500 to $2,000), rare vintage photographs, original sketches, and more.
Other significant items include a 1983 Fender Telecaster custom-made for and owned by Dylan, estimated at $80,000 to $120,000, and signed handwritten lyrics to “Blowin’ In The Wind,” valued at $15,000 to $20,000. The auction will also feature the rare Ionic Original recording of Dylan’s 2022 studio rendition of “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” produced by Grammy-winning T Bone Burnett. This unique piece, estimated at $400,000 to $600,000, is the second Ionic Original recording offered to the public after “Blowin’ In The Wind” in 2022.
A special exhibition highlighting key items from the Al Aronowitz collection, including signed harmonicas, rare show posters, sketches, photographs, and more, will run at the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum until January 17, culminating in the auction on January 18.
