Doha, Dec 16: Qatar Airways will re-launch daily flights to Canberra, the capital city of Australia, in December 2025, enhancing connectivity and competition for business, leisure, and government sector customers.
The daily flights will operate via Melbourne to Hamad International Airport in Doha, recognized as the World’s Best Airport.
Passengers will enjoy seamless connections to over 170 destinations in the Qatar Airways global network and a world-class stopover experience.
The route will be serviced by Boeing 777 aircraft, featuring the airline’s award-winning Q-suite Business Class cabin and complimentary high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi for all passengers.
Qatar Airways ceased operations to Canberra during the global pandemic, making this announcement a milestone in reconnecting the airline to the city, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), and surrounding regions.
Canberra Airport CEO Stephen Byron emphasized the service’s importance for the region, providing over a million residents with access to Qatar Airways’ extensive global network and highlighting its potential to boost tourism, economic development, and job creation.
ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr underscored the positive impact on Canberra’s tourism sector, saying it aligns with the government’s goal of achieving AU$5 billion in visitor expenditure by 2030.
The announcement follows the launch of Virgin Australia’s new services from Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne to over 100 destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa on Qatar Airways aircraft.
Pending regulatory approval, the Qatar Airways and Virgin Australia partnership will enhance competition, connectivity, and customer choice.
Loyalty members of both airlines will enjoy maximized earning and redemption opportunities and reciprocal lounge access on Canberra services.
