Education Ransomware Costs Surge

Kuala Lumpur, Sept 18: A Sophos survey reveals that most educational institutions paid more than the original ransom demand in ransomware attacks.
Despite a drop in overall attacks, the median ransom payment reached $6.6 million for lower education and $4.4 million for higher education.
Recovery is slow, with only 30 per cent of victims restoring systems in under a week.
Attackers increasingly target backups, and data encryption rates have risen, leading to higher recovery costs. Sophos suggests stronger cybersecurity measures to mitigate these rising threats.

Canon Unveils New Printer Colors

Shah Alam, Sept 19: Canon Marketing Malaysia has launched new green-white variants of its PIXMA E410 and E470 inkjet printers as part of its “28 Years of Evergreen Excellence” celebration.
The vibrant colours align with home decor trends while maintaining the high quality Canon is known for. In addition, Canon introduced the enhanced Canon Printer Buddy app and announced the nationwide “Peraduan Gaya Baru Warna Baru” contest, offering prizes worth RM30,000.

Taghill Announces Leadership Changes

Kuala Lumpur, Sept 20: Taghill Holdings Berhad (formerly Siab Holdings Berhad) has re-designated key management roles to strengthen its leadership.
Wong Yih Ming has been named Group Managing Director, while Ng Wai Hoe assumes the role of Chief Executive Officer.
This move follows the company’s shareholders approving a name change to Taghill Holdings Berhad at its recent EGM.
The name change will take effect once registered by the Companies Commission of Malaysia.

Sarawak Welcomes Cruise Visitors

Sarawak, Sept 20: Sarawak Tourism Board greeted 126 passengers from the Heritage Adventurer at Pending Port, Kuching, today.
As part of Noble Caledonia’s “Wonders & Wildlife of Borneo” cruise, visitors enjoyed a traditional garlanding ceremony and cultural performance representing Sarawak’s diverse ethnic groups. Passengers explored Kuching’s key sites, including Semenggoh Wildlife Centre and Bako National Park. The cruise continues to destinations across Southeast Asia, while Sarawak anticipates two more cruise ship arrivals this year.

The company’s ordinary shares maintained a closing bid price of $1.00 or higher for 10 consecutive trading days, from August 30 to September 16, 2024, ensuring adherence to Nasdaq Listing Rule 5550(a)(2).

Solar District Cooling Debuts Strong

Kuala Lumpur, Sept 20: Solar District Cooling Group Berhad (SDCG) made its debut on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia, with shares opening at RM0.500, a 31.6 per cent premium over the IPO price of RM0.380.
SDCG, specialising in energy-saving solutions like BMS and solar thermal systems, raised RM45.1 million through its IPO.
The funds will support headquarters expansion, project bonds, materials purchase, and working capital. SDCG aims to drive growth in sustainability and energy efficiency for its clients.
