Australia Post Reduces Losses

Sydney, Aug 30: Australia Post has reported a significant reduction in its pre-tax losses for the 2024 financial year, announcing a loss of $88.5 million, an improvement from the $200.3 million loss in the previous year.
The company attributes this progress to its Post26 strategy, which focuses on modernisation, cost reduction, and service improvement.
Group revenue increased by 1.8 per cent to $9.13 billion, with the Parcels and Services segment seeing a 2.3 per cent rise in revenue to $7.42 billion.
Despite the challenges faced by the Letters business, which saw a 12.9 per cent drop in volume and a loss of $361.8 million, the overall financial performance has improved due to disciplined cost management and business simplification.
Australia Post CEO Paul Graham highlighted the success of the Post26 strategy, noting that while the company still faces structural challenges, the initial reforms are starting to deliver positive results.
“Our Post26 strategy and the historic phase one modernisation reforms have put the business on the right track, and we’re now starting to see green shoots as we turn around the business,” Graham said.
The company has also made strides in improving customer experience with new services like Australia Post Metro, a next-day delivery service, and the introduction of a new retail format, Community Hub@Post.
Despite the ongoing decline in letter volumes and over-the-counter transactions, Australia Post continues to invest in its retail network and technology to meet the changing demands of its customers.
Looking ahead, Australia Post acknowledges that further reforms are necessary to ensure long-term sustainability, especially as the shift from physical mail to digital services accelerates.
The company is also focused on transforming its retail network and addressing challenges related to its Bank@Post service, which is facing financial pressures as the banking landscape evolves.
