Hunter Valley, Aug 12: As the curtain falls on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the world reflects on two weeks of extraordinary achievements.
The Games, equated to forty world championships held simultaneously, saw 760 sessions in 32 Olympic sports, nearly 850 medals awarded, and 42 records shattered, including 10 world records.
Paris 2024 attracted record crowds, with over 9.5 million tickets sold, and spectators from 222 countries. Notable events included 450,000 attendees for Beach Volleyball at the Eiffel Tower and a world-record 66,000 spectators for a women’s rugby 7s match.
Social media also buzzed with 2.4 billion views on Paris 2024 platforms, while 24.4 million tuned in for the opening ceremony.
The Games’ impact extended beyond the stadiums, with six million visitors flocking to celebration sites across Paris and France.
The Olympic Village saw peak occupancy of 11,804 athletes on August 3, with daily staples including 4,000 pastries and 600 baguettes.
Love was also in the air, with seven wedding proposals during the Games.
Paris 2024 marked several historic firsts: the first Paralympic Games in France, the first gender parity, and the first Opening Ceremony held outside a stadium.
With a budget of €4.4 billion, 95 per cent privately funded, the Games boasted 45,000 volunteers and aimed to halve their carbon footprint compared to previous editions.
As the world bids adieu to Paris 2024, the Games leave behind a legacy of unparalleled achievements, unity, and a glimpse into the future of global sports.
