Kuala Lumpur, June 1: Global mobility platform inDrive has partnered with local car rental company Flyt to provide flexible car rental services and streamline the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licensing process for e-hailing drivers in Malaysia.
The collaboration aims to fill the gap for drivers who do not own cars by offering a centralized PSV provider.
This initiative is expected to increase driver compliance with government regulations that mandate PSV licenses for e-hailing drivers, a requirement introduced in 2019.
Flyt, which started in 2016 to meet the transportation needs of job seekers in the e-hailing sector, will serve as the car rental provider for new inDrive applicants.
Additionally, Flyt will feature inDrive as its preferred e-hailing partner on its platforms.
A highlight of this partnership is Flyt’s Rent2Own scheme.
This unique program allows drivers to own cars without financial commitments through a flexible agreement, requiring a minimum three-month rental period.
This scheme is particularly beneficial for low to middle-income groups working in the gig economy, providing them with more opportunities.
“At inDrive, we are committed to ensuring our services comply with government regulations. By partnering with Flyt, we aim to address the need for flexible transportation solutions, making it easier for our drivers to obtain their PSV licenses and access car rentals,” said Govin Kumaar Panirsheeluam, Business Development Representative at inDrive.
“This partnership not only encourages greater compliance but also helps us increase driver acquisitions, ensuring more passengers benefit from our service.”
Long Seh Yung, Finance Director at Flyt, added, “We are thrilled to partner with inDrive to streamline the PSV license process and offer flexible car rental services. Our Rent2Own scheme is designed to empower e-hailers, especially those in the gig economy. This collaboration ensures that our drivers have robust options to advance their e-hailing careers.”
Flyt has been operating successfully in Penang and Klang Valley since 2019 and plans to expand to Johor Bahru in 2025.
Interested applicants can visit inDrive’s driver registration page at inDrive Driver Registration to sign up for the PSV license.
Flyt will ensure a smooth sign-up process and offer various rental car options, including sedans, MPVs, and premium models, depending on availability. Rental prices will vary based on the number of rides completed by the driver.
This partnership between inDrive and Flyt aims to facilitate the PSV licensing process and provide flexible transportation solutions, empowering more drivers to join the e-hailing industry and enhancing their earning potential.
