UNM, CelcomDigi Partnership

Semenyih, May 30: The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) has partnered with CelcomDigi Berhad to foster and develop digital talents for the future.
This collaboration, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to enhance AI and Industrial XR/Metaverse capabilities, benefiting both UNM students and CelcomDigi employees.
The MoU was signed by Professor Sam Kingman, Interim Provost and CEO of UNM, and Joachim Rajaram, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of CelcomDigi.
Witnesses included Professor Ir Dr Mohd Shahir Liew, Vice Provost of Research and Knowledge Exchange at UNM, and Ts Nik Naharudin Bin Mohd Nasir, Director of Digital Talent and Entrepreneurship at MDEC.
Over the next three years, this partnership will focus on multiple collaborative projects. CelcomDigi and UNM will work together to develop AI and Metaverse solutions that will be implemented within CelcomDigi to enhance operational efficiency and employee experiences. Additionally, the partnership will provide UNM students with hands-on learning opportunities, including internships and work placements at CelcomDigi.
CelcomDigi will also become a key connectivity solutions provider for UNM, enabling advanced 4G/5G, Direct Internet Access, WiFi, and SDWAN services across the university.
Furthermore, both parties will explore reskilling and upskilling opportunities for CelcomDigi employees through micro-credential courses and part-time postgraduate programs offered by UNM.
Professor Sam Kingman highlighted the significance of this partnership: “Our collaboration with CelcomDigi unlocks new possibilities for us to drive digital transformation and provides our graduates with practical learning experiences through internships or employment opportunities. We are excited about the potential for immersive learning through AI and Metaverse technologies, which will help us reimagine the tertiary education experience. The future is now, and by developing and empowering students, we can meet the digital demands of the future.”
The collaboration will also include thought leadership engagements, focusing on the role of industry stakeholders in bridging the gap between academia and the workplace and how UNM’s research can accelerate AI technology adoption.
The announcement was made during UNM’s 2024 STEAM Carnival, the university’s flagship event showcasing innovative student projects in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
