During the extended Easter break, I took the opportunity to delve into Super Dungeon Maker, a game poised to receive a significant update, courtesy of rokaplay in partnership with FIRECHICK.
This update, available on both Nintendo Switch and Steam for PC, is loaded with exciting new features aimed at enhancing the experience for both newcomers and veteran players alike.
Access to the beta version on my Nintendo Switch came as part of the privileges afforded to game reviewers for an early review.
Unlike many seasoned game reviewers, my perspective is unique.
As someone new to gaming, my reviews aim to engage fellow novices or those yet to immerse themselves in the world of gaming on platforms like Switch or Steam.
My gaming background is modest; I once developed a game in Malaysia that gained some attention, including TV features. But let’s focus on why you’re here: my take on Super Dungeon Maker.

Game reviewers typically receive a complimentary review code for either Steam or Switch. In my case, I played the game on my Nintendo Switch after encountering issues with the Steam code.

The game’s start was smooth enough, but I quickly encountered difficulties with the gameplay due to a lack of a proper introduction.
A particular challenge was figuring out how to cross a river to progress, a stumbling block that ultimately hindered my enjoyment of the game.

Despite searching for a tutorial or a sample chapter to guide me through the initial stages, it seemed the beta version lacked these helpful starting points.
However, the game did succeed in delivering a sense of achievement and joy.

The main character, a chicken with an Elvis-style hairdo, added a quirky and endearing element to the experience.
The core of the game revolves around guiding this charismatic chicken through mazes, collecting treasures, and navigating through doors to new areas.

My progress was smooth until faced with the challenge of crossing rivers, which consistently thwarted my advancement, leading to repeated restarts and, eventually, to me setting the game aside in frustration.
I opted not to reach out to the game’s developers for guidance, wanting my review to reflect an unassisted first attempt, akin to the approach many players might take.
Despite my struggles, I encourage you to explore Super Dungeon Maker for yourself.
Your experience might differ significantly from mine, potentially uncovering the depth and enjoyment that eluded me.
