Seoul, March 21: Korean Air is set to enhance its long-haul operations with the acquisition of 33 Airbus A350 aircraft, in a deal valued at $13.7 billion.
The purchase includes 27 of the larger A350-1000 models and six A350-900s, marking a major investment in the future of eco-friendly aviation.
The airline is focusing on updating its fleet by replacing older aircraft with the A350 family, known for their advanced, fuel-efficient technologies.
The A350-1000 stands out for its spacious cabin, capable of accommodating 410 passengers, and its use of innovative materials that reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 25 per cent in comparison to similar-sized aircraft of previous generations.
It also boasts the longest flight range of any current passenger aircraft, capable of flying up to 16,000km.
The A350-900, slightly smaller, can seat between 300-350 passengers and has a range of 15,370km, perfectly suited for Korean Air’s key long-haul routes like the Seoul Incheon-New York service.
This order precedes the anticipated integration with Asiana Airlines, highlighting Korean Air’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and efficiency.
In addition to the A350s, Korean Air plans to introduce 50 Airbus A321neos, 10 Boeing 787-9s, 20 Boeing 787-10s, and 30 Boeing 737-8s into its fleet, continuing its efforts to modernize and minimize environmental impact.
