Sydney, March 20: As Australians start to plan their next holiday destinations, a recent YouGov Profiles survey has uncovered that most prefer to stay closer to home.
Topping the list of favored destinations is Queensland, capturing 15 per cent of Aussie travelers’ interest. Following closely are New South Wales and Victoria, securing the second and third spots with 13 per cent and 10 per cent respectively.
The allure of local travel underscores a national trend towards exploring the beauty and diversity within Australia’s borders.

The survey also highlighted a significant interest in international travel, with Asia being the first overseas destination to make the list, attracting eight per cent of travelers.
This marks a turning point in travel preferences, showcasing a blend of local and international destinations among Australian travelers’ top choices.
Back on the Australian continent, Western Australia, South Australia, New Zealand, and Tasmania each garnered interest from four per cent of respondents, showcasing the wide range of appealing destinations within and near Australia.

Mainland Europe and Bali, along with other Indonesian destinations, also featured on the list, though to a lesser extent, illustrating a varied interest in travel destinations among Australians.
When it comes to the cost of travel, the survey reveals that 36 per cent of Australians spent between $1,000 and $5,000 on their most recent holiday, indicating a moderate level of spending.
However, travel budgets vary, with some Australians opting for more economical or lavish spending patterns.
Planning habits also vary among Australians, with 59 per cent preferring to book their holidays well in advance, contrasting with 28 per cent who look for last-minute deals.

This careful planning reflects a broader trend of budget-conscious travel, with over half of the respondents aiming to adhere to a strict budget during their holidays.
