Kuala Lumpur, March 20: Alibaba Group has opened applications for its global mathematics competition, inviting math enthusiasts and developers to tackle challenges for a chance to win significant prizes. Hosted by the DAMO Academy, the competition is open for registrations until early April, with the entire contest taking place online.
This year introduces an AI model track, allowing participants to use large language models to solve preliminary round problems within 48 hours.
This addition aims to showcase AI’s potential in logical thinking and problem-solving, despite current AI limitations in handling complex math problems.
The competition is open to individuals, academic institutions, and AI startups, with no entry fee required. Preliminary rounds are set for April 13-15, leading to the finals on June 22.
Top prizes include $30,000 for each of the five gold winners, $15,000 for ten silver winners, and $8,000 for twenty bronze winners. A special $10,000 prize is reserved for the top AI model.
Attracting over 50,000 participants from 70 countries annually, the competition emphasizes inclusivity and the power of mathematics.
Last year, a 17-year-old from Peking University became the youngest ever to achieve full marks, standing out among 685 contestants.
