Shah Alam, Feb 28:The Tun Ahmad Sarji Trophy is poised for a dramatic conclusion at the Saujana Golf & Country Club, with Galven Green, Syahiran Syakir, and defending champion Danny Chia locked in a close battle for the title in the tournament’s final round.
Green surged to the lead with a stellar performance, carding a four-under 68 in today’s round, bringing his total to 137.
This puts him one stroke ahead of the young challenger Syahiran and two strokes clear of Chia, setting the stage for an intense three-way fight for the championship.
The tournament, part of the Toyota Tour and organized by Professional Golf Malaysia with MST Golf’s support, has seen fierce competition from the outset. With 51 players making the cut, the final round promises to be an enthralling contest.
Green, reflecting on his performance, expressed satisfaction with his position heading into the final day. Last year’s Alphard Cup winner is confident and focused on clinching another victory. “It’s nice to be in this position,” Green remarked, despite acknowledging there was room for improvement in his game.
Syahiran, on the other hand, faced setbacks with bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes but remains optimistic about his chances. “I’m absolutely happy with my game from tee to green,” Syahiran shared, determined to make a strong finish in the tournament.
Danny Chia, aiming to defend his title, had a mixed day with equal numbers of birdies and bogeys. Chia’s performance on the par fives was not up to his usual standard, affecting his position on the leaderboard.
The women’s competition is equally tight, with defending champion Aretha Pan and overnight leader Geraldine Wong now tied at the top. Both faced challenging conditions, with Wong highlighting the course’s length as a significant obstacle.
The tournament also shines a spotlight on emerging talents, with Rhaasri Kanesh leading the amateur category and Hui Yong Sherng making waves with the low round of the day, a five-under 67.
As the Tun Ahmad Sarji Trophy heads into its final round, golf fans are in for a treat with a three-way clash among Green, Syahiran, and Chia, along with a compelling competition in the women’s field. The stage is set for an unforgettable day of golf at the Saujana Golf & Country Club.
