MAG and MATTA Forge Strong Partnership for Tourism

Petaling Jaya, Feb 19: In a move set to invigorate Malaysia’s tourism sector, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) have reaffirmed their enduring collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This strategic alliance aims to propel the growth of the tourism industry, with MAG serving as the official airline partner for the next two years until 2025.
As the official airline partner and primary sponsor for the upcoming MATTA Fair 2024, slated from 22 to March 24, MAG is poised to bolster its presence and allure at Malaysia’s premier international travel fair.
By introducing new avenues and enriching travel experiences for global travelers through its comprehensive offerings, both entities will leverage their strengths to reinforce Malaysia’s stature as a pivotal tourism hub and gateway to Asia.
This will be supported by MAG’s subsidiaries including Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, AMAL, MASwings, Enrich, and Journify.
A series of collaborative endeavors are on the horizon to elevate the prominence of MATTA Fair events. These efforts will be bolstered by initiatives aimed at MATTA State Chapters across key states in Malaysia. MAG will extend its support to the MATTA Fair Buyers Contest by offering air tickets as prizes, provide exclusive fares to participating travel agents, and conduct cross-promotional activities across MAG platforms during the fair.
Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines at MAG, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration is poised to revolutionize the tourism industry, steering it towards unprecedented growth.

Qatar Airways Endurance Championship

Doha, Feb 19: Qatar Airways has elevated its sports sponsorship involvement by becoming the Official Airline Partner and Title Partner of the Qatar Airways Qatar 1812 Km FIA World Endurance Championship. This collaboration, hosted at the Lusail International Circuit, marks a significant moment in motorsport as the renowned airline partners with the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) for its 12th season in 2024.
Qatar will kickstart the championship’s season from 29 February to 2 March 2024 at the iconic Lusail International Circuit, with the highly anticipated race spanning nearly 10 hours, named the Qatar Airways Qatar 1812 Km.
Thierry Antinori, Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer, expressed pride in supporting the FIA World Endurance Championship at Lusail, stating, “Staging this event allows us to connect with the discerning motorsport audience and fanbase and welcome them to our home and hub – Qatar.”
FIA World Endurance Championship CEO, Frédéric Lequien, also welcomed the partnership, noting the shared commitment to delivering premium experiences for customers and fans.
Amro al-Hamad, Executive Director of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation and CEO of Lusail International Circuit, emphasized the growing significance of Qatar as a motorsport hub and the shared commitment to excellence in the industry.
The championship, spanning eight countries across four continents, will feature a record number of 19 Hypercars and 18 LMGT3, with notable participants such as Valentino Rossi and Jenson Button. Malaysia Airlines Upgrades Fleet

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 20: Malaysia Airlines announced it will use its flagship Airbus A350-900 for both of its daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Doha starting April 1, 2024, enhancing passenger comfort and meeting growing demand.
Previously, the A350 was deployed on one of the daily services alongside an Airbus A330-300.
The upgrade brings superior seating across all classes, including 40 Business Class seats with direct aisle access, 32 Economy Comfort, and 228 Economy seats.
This move underscores Malaysia Airlines’ commitment to improving the travel experience, backed by Malaysia Aviation Group’s MD, Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, and celebrated by Qatar Airways for strengthening their strategic partnership.

Qantas Welcomes New Leadership and Embarks on Renewal
Canberra, Feb 21: In a significant move aimed at steering the airline into its next phase, Qantas has announced the appointment of two new board members, including a new Chairman, as part of its ongoing renewal strategy.
John Mullen will join the Qantas Board as Non-Executive Director and Chairman Elect from 1 July 2024, taking over as Chairman ahead of the company’s Annual General Meeting in October.
Dr. Nora Scheinkestel is set to join the Board as a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Remuneration Committee starting 1 March 2024.
These appointments follow the retirement of long-serving directors Maxine Brenner and Jacqueline Hey, who will step down after the company’s half-year results, and Richard Goyder, the current Chairman, who will retire prior to the AGM.
Goyder highlighted the importance of board renewal in navigating Qantas through recent challenges and expressed confidence in the new members’ ability to contribute positively to the airline’s future.
John Mullen brings extensive experience from his roles as a director and chairman of large, complex companies, including his positions at Treasury Wine Estates, Brambles, and Telstra. His expertise in the transport sector, both in Australia and internationally, is expected to be invaluable for Qantas’s journey ahead. Dr. Nora Scheinkestel, known for her over 25 years of experience on numerous boards across utilities, finance, and logistics firms, brings deep regulatory knowledge to the table.
Both Mullen and Scheinkestel’s appointments will be presented for shareholder approval at the AGM. Mullen has expressed his intention to reduce his existing professional commitments to focus on his new role at Qantas, underscoring the significance he places on leading the national carrier.

Qatar Airways Expands Again

Sydney, Feb 22: Qatar Airways resumes its Lisbon, Portugal flights, enhancing its 2024 summer schedule to over 170 global destinations, including 50 in Europe.
Starting 6 June 2024, four weekly flights on a Boeing B787-8 aircraft will reconnect Lisbon with Qatar’s extensive network across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Indian Subcontinent via Hamad International Airport.
