MAG Expands, Modernizes Fleet

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 29: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is set to expand its fleet with 12 new aircraft in 2024, as part of its fleet modernization strategy.
This expansion includes the debut of its first Airbus 330-900 (A330neo) expected in the third quarter of 2024.
Alongside the A330neo, MAG will also welcome eight Boeing 737-8 aircraft, supporting its network expansion goals.
In a strategic move back in August 2022, MAG secured 20 A330neo aircraft through Memorandum of Understandings (MOU) with Airbus, Rolls-Royce, and Avolon, projecting deliveries up to 2028.
This acquisition involves a mix of direct purchases and lease agreements, highlighting MAG’s commitment to modernizing its fleet and enhancing service standards, supporting the aviation industry’s post-pandemic growth.
The A330neo promises to significantly boost MAG’s operational efficiency, aligning with environmental goals by offering up to 25 per cent less fuel consumption and emissions.
Notably, the aircraft will feature Collins Aerospace Elevation Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, marking a first for MAG.
These seats, adorned with the signature songket motif, reflect Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage while providing a modern, luxurious travel experience.
The cabin layout ensures all-aisle access, prioritizing passenger comfort and privacy.
With 297 seats, including 28 in Business Class and 269 in Economy Class (24 of which offer extra legroom), the A330neo will set a new standard for MAG’s passenger experience.
The aircraft will also boast wireless charging pods, ergonomic seats, state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment, and Wi-Fi connectivity, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable journey.
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG, expressed enthusiasm about the introduction of the A330neo, emphasizing the airline’s focus on customer safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
He noted that the new aircraft, along with innovative cabin features, aligns with MAG’s investment strategy centered on cabin comfort, in-flight dining, and exceptional service.|
Moreover, to ensure uniformity and premium service across its fleet, MAG plans to retrofit six of its A350-900s starting in 2026, in line with the new A330neo cabin standards.
MAG’s current fleet, including subsidiaries Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings, and MASkargo, consists of 104 aircraft.
