Canada, Jan 10: Toronto-based independent game studio, Hilltop Studios, has officially announced the launch of their much-anticipated narrative-driven deduction game, Lil’ Guardsman. Scheduled for release on January 23rd, the game will be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. This game promises to be a humorous nod to classic 90s point-and-click adventures, offering players a unique blend of comedy and fantasy.
In celebration of this announcement, Hilltop Studios has released a brand new trailer that introduces players to the game’s protagonist, 12-year-old Lil. She is seen stepping in for her absent father as a castle gate guard. The trailer gives a sneak peek into the vibrant characters, challenging decisions, and the myriad of security-related escapades that await players in Lil’ Guardsman.
The game, inspired by the classic point-and-click genre and incorporating elements of the popular game Papers, Please, sets players in a high-fantasy world filled with wit and humor reminiscent of Monkey Island and other Lucasarts classics from the 90s.

In Lil’ Guardsman, players take on the role of Lil, a young girl unexpectedly taking over her father’s duties as a guardsman. Players will navigate through engaging dialogues and cleverly use an assortment of investigative tools to determine the true intentions of various quirky characters attempting to enter the city.
Lil’ Guardsman challenges players to use their wits, with tools like a Decoder Ring, Truth Spray, and a Bullwhip, to make critical decisions about who enters the castle. The decisions made by Lil have significant consequences, requiring players to unravel conspiracies and safeguard her castle and family from potential threats.
Artiom Komarov, Co-Founder and Co-Game Director of Hilltop, expressed his enthusiasm for the game. “Lil’ Guardsman is our way of combining the puzzle-solving and branching storylines of Papers, Please with the charm and humor of classics like Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. We’ve spent two years laughing over the scenarios, dialogues, and visual jokes, and we can’t wait for everyone to experience it on January 23rd,” he said.
