Sydney, Dec 30: Melissa Richardson (formerly known as Kose), aged 30 and a resident of Staplehurst in Kent, has been honored with a distinguished award for her contributions to the development of early careers in the aviation sector.
Melissa, who holds a key position in British Airways’ Strategic Resourcing team, was bestowed an MBE in the 2024 New Year’s Honours List by the King, acknowledging her significant role in enhancing the airline’s programs for emerging talent.
A former student of Wrotham Secondary School in Sevenoaks, Melissa joined British Airways in 2012 through an apprenticeship.
Her dedication and hard work have been pivotal in advancing the airline’s vision for nurturing emerging talent.
She has played a crucial role in motivating over 175,000 young individuals from diverse backgrounds to explore aviation careers, thereby boosting the visibility of British Airways’ acclaimed graduate, apprenticeship, business placement, and work experience initiatives.
Melissa’s efforts have been instrumental in bridging the skills gap within the industry and introducing novel early career opportunities, such as specialized graduate and apprenticeship programs.
Her significant achievements include spearheading British Airways’ collaboration with The Prince’s Trust. This alliance launched the “Get into Aviation with British Airways” program, aiming to support young people from London in securing aviation careers through work experience and apprenticeship opportunities.
Additionally, Melissa was a key force behind the launch of Speedbird-Z, a student-focused website offering e-learning modules and mentorship opportunities, which has already attracted over 17,000 students.
Upon receiving her MBE, Melissa expressed her deep honor and humility, reflecting on her decade-long journey in shaping students’ lives and aspirations.
She remains passionate about her role and looks forward to continuing her support for the next generation.
Lisa Tremble, the Chief People, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer, praised Melissa for her exceptional contributions to British Airways and the broader society, particularly in the realm of aviation career development for young people.
