Kuala Lumpur, Dec 26: Xiaomi, a global technology leader, recently announced a collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Malaysia, integrating its latest Xiaomi 13T Series cameras, co-engineered with Leica, into UiTM’s Department of Creative Photomedia.
This partnership is part of the global Xiaomi Education initiative, focusing on mobile photography.
The collaboration featured a masterclass led by local photojournalist and Leica photographer, Sadiq Asyraf. He shared insights and techniques in photography, particularly in mobile photography, with UiTM students. Additionally, Xiaomi and UiTM co-developed a mobile photography assignment themed ‘Celebrating the Essence of Malaysia’.
It encouraged students to explore cultural diversity and personal stories through environmental portraiture using the Xiaomi 13T Series.
The students’ work culminated in a photography exhibition, where the top three participants were awarded prizes by Xiaomi Malaysia.
One noteworthy photograph was “Mengabadikan Warisan: Karya Potret Fotografi ‘Kerangka Sebuah Arca Kepala’” by student Muhammad Al-Amin bin Azman.
The collaboration, valued at RM 65,000 in industrial grants, marked the beginning of Xiaomi’s educational initiatives in Malaysia.
Eddie Huang, Country Manager of Xiaomi Malaysia and Singapore, emphasized the creative outcomes of this partnership and expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations in Malaysia.
Shariful Hafizal, Program Coordinator at UiTM’s Creative Photomedia Department, highlighted the collaboration as a platform for students to explore environmental portraiture, demonstrating that exceptional imagery can be achieved with accessible tools like Xiaomi smartphones.
This initiative aligns with Xiaomi Education’s goal to encourage innovation and creativity in learning, using technology as a medium for artistic expression.
