Shah Alam, Dec 20: Top Glove Corporation Bhd, headquartered in Shah Alam and operating in the glove manufacturing industry, has announced its financial results for the First Quarter (1QFY2024) ending on November 30, 2023, showcasing its steady progress towards recovery.
Despite the persistent challenges in the operational landscape, Top Glove achieved commendable results in 1QFY2024. The company reported a Sales Revenue of RM493 million, representing a 4 per cent quarter-on-quarter increase.
Additionally, the Loss from Operations narrowed significantly by 39 per cent to RM60 million compared to the previous quarter.
The 1QFY2024 Loss After Tax also improved, recording RM47 million, signifying a remarkable 90 per cent reduction compared to the Loss After Tax in 4QFY2023, which included a one-off impairment charge of RM392 million.
Notably, Top Glove also reported a positive EBITDA of RM21 million, marking a substantial 320 per cent increase from the previous quarter.
The company generated a total positive cash inflow from operations of RM17 million, reflecting its commitment to financial stability. Furthermore, Sales Volume exhibited growth compared to 4QFY2023.
These improved results can be attributed to Top Glove’s continuous efforts in operational efficiency, quality enhancement, and cost optimization, which helped offset rising raw material prices.
Additionally, the increase in Sales Volume contributed to enhanced utilization and overall efficiency, positively impacting the company’s bottom line.
Cheong Guan, Managing Director of Top Glove, expressed optimism about the company’s ongoing progress, stating, “We are encouraged by the consistent improvement in our quarterly results. This underscores the effectiveness of our ongoing quality and cost optimization efforts, as outlined in the Top Glove Turnaround Plan. With the resumption of glove orders and signs of market recovery, we are hopeful for sustained growth in the upcoming quarters.”
As part of its commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, Top Glove proudly announced that it has been awarded the EcoVadis Sustainability Bronze Medal.
This recognition places the company among the top-rated companies and industries in 2023 for meeting sustainability criteria, including environmental impact, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.
EcoVadis, based in Paris, is the world’s largest provider of business sustainability ratings, with a global network of over 100,000 rated companies.
Top Glove is also actively collaborating with stakeholders to meet new obligations under the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), set to be effective from December 30, 2024. Under this regulation, companies involved in commodities such as natural rubber and its derivatives are required to conduct supply chain due diligence to ensure that their products are not linked to recent deforestation, forest degradation, or violations of local environmental and social laws.
Looking ahead, Top Glove maintains a positive outlook for the glove industry in the medium to long term. Gloves remain essential, single-use items in sectors such as healthcare, industry, and food and beverage, with no viable alternatives.
The company is optimistic that global glove demand growth, estimated at approximately eight per cent, will recover in tandem with increased glove consumption.
This growth will be driven by customers replenishing their depleting glove stockpiles, strong industry fundamentals, and heightened health and hygiene awareness following the pandemic.
Cheong Guan concluded, “We are delighted to have begun the new financial year 2024 on a stronger footing. Our future focus will continue to be on strengthening our core glove business through quality and cost enhancement initiatives, positioning us well to sustain our performance upswing and expedite our recovery.”
