Danni Duncan By Danni Duncan

As a small business owner myself, I understand that it can be a 24/7 thing.
You’re always working – which is why it’s even more important to set time aside to ensure you move your body – you’ll find you work better, you’re more productive, less tired, have less brain fog, and more energy.

My top tips would be:

Set time aside – like if you have an appointment to see the doctor or with work, it should be a non-negotiable time slot in your diary. It doesn’t have to be hours.
Thirty minutes is perfect, but even a 10-15 minute express workout (off my app Fit by the Figure) can do wonders for your brain and body.
A top tip is making this a time slot in the morning – I find this helps me kickstart my day so I don’t feel so bad when I work through it.

Understanding that your input affects your output is key.
So, if you’re not looking after yourself, then your work will suffer.
Creativity, and productivity all come from a healthy brain – so moving your body, and releasing endorphins and dopamine will help your work.
I love a 15-minute walk at about 2 pm for that extra energy hit and reset too.
I always come back so much more inspired and energised to keep working.
This mindset will help you thrive.
I know as a small business owner time is so precious.
Any time travelling for me is wasted time – which is why I work out from home.
It saves me at least half an hour of travel time, not to mention time sorting out or waiting for equipment at a gym.
That’s one reason I started my business and app Fit by the Figure – so that people didn’t have to compromise on things.
My app is great for that with over 60 home workouts from express, to 30 mins, yoga, meditation and stretching – there’s something you can do whenever and wherever you are.

Some exercises to do while working from home.

I encourage you to get up from your desk every hour – even if it’s to stretch do a little jog on the spot or a power move.  Get that blood pumping around your body.
For us to improve our long-term health we must do that little bit more.
While sitting at your desk – always ensure you’re sitting up straight, shoulders back – doing shoulder rolls every so often to reset that posture is a good idea.  Stretching the arms and over your head to keep the mobility through the shoulders is also great.
Doing some calf raises can help the blood flow through your body as well – sitting isn’t great for our blood flow so in-between getting up every hour which you’re going to do now (smiley face) can help keep that going.

Just standing up and sitting back down without holding onto anything or rounding your spine and keeping your core engaged is great for glute stretch and stability.
Five to ten of these now and then are great for blood flow too.
