Sydney, Dec 7: Sarah Hunter has been named the Chief Economist and Assistant Governor (Economic) at the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA).
As the head of the Economic Group, overseeing Economic Analysis and Economic Research, she brings a wealth of experience from academia, consulting, and public service, including senior executive roles.
Hunter played a pivotal role in establishing the Americas, Asia Pacific, and Australian offices at Oxford Economics, eventually becoming the Chief Economist in Sydney.

She also served as a Partner at KPMG in the Economics and Tax Centre.
Before her RBA appointment, Hunter held the position of Head of Macroeconomic Conditions at the Commonwealth Treasury, where she was responsible for analyzing current conditions and economic forecasts and advising the government on various economic and policy matters.
Governor Michele Bullock expressed delight in Hunter’s appointment, highlighting the unique and diverse perspective that she brings to the Bank and the leadership team.
Sarah Hunter is set to assume her role on January 29, 2024, and she expressed her honour and privilege to join the RBA, looking forward to collaborating with the leadership team and the highly skilled RBA staff to serve the Australian public.
