Kuala Lumpur, Nov 21: Canon Marketing Malaysia recently hosted the Canon Short Film Contest 2023 awards ceremony, recognizing the outstanding talents of Malaysian filmmakers.
Themed “Harmony in Diversity,” the contest aimed to appreciate Malaysia’s cultural richness, attracting widespread participation across three categories: Cameras, Colleges and universities, and Smartphones.
A panel of industry experts, including Chew Han Tah, Indra Che Muda Redzuan, and Raja Mukhriz, assessed submissions based on creativity, storytelling, technical skills, and overall impact.
This nationwide contest aligns with Canon’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of Malaysian filmmakers.
In collaboration with partners Sennheiser, Nanlite, Sandisk, and Zhiyun, Canon provided winners with essential resources for long-term success.
The contest served as a valuable platform for aspiring filmmakers to showcase their skills, gain exposure, and kickstart their careers.
Shunji Yoshikai, President and CEO of Canon Marketing Malaysia, emphasized the contest’s embodiment of the “Kyosei” philosophy, bringing together talents and industry leaders to showcase Malaysia’s cinematic artistry.
He highlighted the commitment to collaboration, talent development, and cultural preservation, advancing Malaysia’s filmmaking industry.
Hunter Zhang, Director of the Image Communication Business Division at Canon Marketing Malaysia, expressed pride in supporting and fostering a new wave of Malaysian film talents.
Datuk Dr. Ammar Abd. Ghapar, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, commended the contest for capturing Malaysia’s essence through vibrant cultures and stunning landscapes.
Anwar Johari Ho secured top honors for his film “Don’t Get Too Close to That Edge,” winning sponsored prizes and a new EOS R5C camera.
The heartwarming story follows a traditional dancer’s relentless pursuit of perfection, pushing her physical and emotional limits.
Canon looks forward to continuing its support for Malaysia’s growing film industry, fostering local talent, and helping visual storytellers achieve their dreams.
