Nilai, Oct 19: The inaugural Alphard Cup at the Kota Seriemas Golf & Country Club witnessed an electrifying finish as Galven Green clinched his maiden professional victory with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
The event concluded with a dramatic showdown, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
After three rounds in the penultimate Toyota Tour event, Galven Green and Paul San stood at the top of the leaderboard, both carding impressive four-under 68s to finish with nine-under 207 aggregates. Trailing closely behind was Ervin Chang, who finished two strokes behind the leaders, managing par golf.
Each of the top three players had a fair shot at winning the tournament in regulation but encountered setbacks on the back nine.
Galven was particularly impressive, reaching 11-under at one stage before bogeying the 15th and 18th holes.
Paul was cruising at 10-under until he encountered a hiccup on the 16th, while Ervin also moved up to nine-under until bogeys at 17 and 18 halted his progress.
An elated Galven Green, who turned professional in 2020, expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m quite speechless. I’ve come close a few times, so this is amazing. This was my first time playing at Kota Seriemas, and winning my first professional event has made it even more satisfying.”
He further credited his parents, Gary and Vivienne, for their unwavering support. Notably, Gary has been carrying Galven’s bag in most tournaments, including regional ADT events.
The Alphard Cup turned out to be a truly fascinating event, featuring not one but two play-offs. In the Ladies Championship, leading money earner Aretha Pan and Genevieve Ling finished with four over 220 aggregates.
Aretha secured her third win and another RM10,000 by birdying the first play-off hole on the par five 1st hole.
Aretha, who had previously lost two play-offs, was determined to finish on a high note.
She shared, “I won the first event at the Tun Ahmad Sarji in Saujana in March, and as this was the final ladies’ championship, I wanted it to be a fairy-tale finish.”
As the Toyota Tour reaches its grand finale with the Toyota Tour Championship, co-sanctioned by the Asian Development Tour at the Saujana GCC from Nov 15-18, the competition is expected to be intense with a field of 144 players, including international professionals.
Kota Seriemas GCC, situated in the 2,400-acre Seriemas township developed by Seriemas Development Sendirian Berhad, a subsidiary of PNB Development Sdn Bhd, played host to the memorable Alphard Cup event.
