Kuala Lumpur, Sept 13: In a double commitment to empower businesses and enhance the Asian Games experience, Alibaba Group’s digital technology and e-commerce platforms are taking center stage. Alibaba.com, a leading global business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce platform, is renewing its dedication to assist Malaysian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly those dealing in Halal products, in expanding their reach within the international Halal market. Concurrently, Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, is lending its expertise to digitize and optimize the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games, aiming to make it the first-ever “Asian Games on the Cloud.”
Alibaba.com’s Commitment to Malaysian SMEs:
At the 19th Malaysian International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), Alibaba.com reaffirmed its commitment to helping Malaysian SMEs, especially those in the Halal product sector, tap into the growing B2B Halal e-commerce market. In collaboration with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), Alibaba.com launched its inaugural Alibaba.com Halal Industry Report.
The report, designed to aid suppliers in making informed business decisions, analyzes global Halal product consumption patterns and trajectories in B2B e-commerce. It recognizes Malaysia as a superior supplier market for Halal products due to its internationally recognized certification process by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), rich Islamic heritage, commitment to research, innovation, and advanced technologies. The report also encourages Malaysian Halal product suppliers to embrace digital transformation for supply chain resilience.
Since its launch, Alibaba.com’s online Halal Pavilion, supported by MATRADE, has witnessed substantial participation from local SMEs in sectors such as food & beverage, agriculture, health, and beauty. The Pavilion has attracted numerous inquiries from global buyers in markets like the European Union, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
Alibaba Cloud Empowers the Hangzhou Asian Games:
In a mission to digitalize and optimize the Hangzhou Asian Games, the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (HAGOC) has entrusted Alibaba Cloud with the core systems needed for the event. These systems, which encompass Games Management Systems (GMS), Results Distribution Systems (RDS), and Games Support Systems (GSS), will ensure the seamless operation of 56 competition venues and critical facilities, including the information technology management center, main media center, and the Hangzhou Asian Games Villages.

As the official information technology integrator and cloud service provider for the Games, Alibaba Cloud aims to deliver an innovative, efficient, sustainable, and inclusive Asian Games. Leveraging its experience in supporting large-scale global sports events, Alibaba Cloud’s cloud-native technology will provide agility, scalability, and efficiency in running the event, eliminating the need for physical data centers and contributing to environmental sustainability.
Notably, the Hangzhou Asian Games will mark the first occasion in which Rights-Holding Broadcasters (RHBs) receive live footage through public cloud infrastructure. Alibaba Cloud expects to transmit over 5,000 hours of live footage, making this Asian Games a more engaging and accessible experience for audiences worldwide.
Furthermore, the Games will utilize Alibaba Cloud’s Intelligent Operation Platform to manage the three Asian Games Villages. With advanced visualization tools and real-time intelligence analysis, the platform will enhance traffic management, crowd control, and overall user experience. Additionally, an intelligent service robot equipped with natural language processing (NLP) technology will provide 24/7 online consulting services for Village residents, further enhancing the digital and smart aspects of the event.
As these two initiatives demonstrate, Alibaba Group is committed to supporting both businesses and sporting events with cutting-edge digital technologies and solutions, fostering growth and innovation across Asia and beyond.
