Petaling Jaya, Aug 4: In response to the escalating dengue cases nationwide, MamyPoko has joined forces with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) to launch the #MamyPokoAgainstDengue campaign on World Mosquito Day.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about mosquito-borne diseases and provide support to families living in high-risk dengue neighborhoods.
Eiji Yoshida, Managing Director of Uni-Charm Group Malaysia and Singapore, expressed the brand’s commitment to assisting parents in ensuring the health and well-being of their children.
The campaign focuses on addressing urgent dengue issues within vulnerable communities and aims to provide parents with peace of mind, knowing that their little ones are protected from the threat of dengue fever.
As part of the outreach efforts, the #MamyPokoAgainstDengue campaign has distributed 1,500 packs of the new MamyPoko ANTIMOS Pants to disadvantaged communities in the Klang Valley and Johor. Benefiting communities include PPR Seri Pahang, PPR Seri Pantai, and PPR Desa Rejang in Kuala Lumpur; PPR Taman Putra Damai in Lembah Subang, Selangor; and PPR Taman Cendana in Pasir Gudang, Johor.
In addition to providing mosquito-repelling pants, the campaign also organized community clean-ups and gotong-royong activities to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in the neighborhoods.
JKM commended MamyPoko Malaysia for their sincere efforts in organizing the campaign, recognizing the challenges faced by urban poor communities burdened with high living costs and inflationary pressures.
The campaign serves to protect families, especially young children, from the persistent threat of dengue, and JKM welcomes other corporate and private sector companies to partake in similar CSR initiatives to expand their reach to a broader range of target groups under JKM’s care throughout Malaysia.
Dr Yong Junina Fadzil, Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Cardiologist, stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance for dengue symptoms, especially severe dengue, which can manifest after the fever subsides.
She highlighted that children aged 0-15 years are highly susceptible to severe dengue and its complications.
Mira Filzah, MamyPoko brand ambassador and local celebrity mom, shared her personal experience and concerns as a parent, emphasizing the peace of mind that comes with using MamyPoko ANTIMOS Pants. The pants, enriched with natural lemongrass extract, offer long-lasting protection against mosquitoes for up to eight hours after wearing and ensure comfort and dryness for up to 10 hours.
Dr Yong Junina Fadzil explained that lemongrass extract has been researched and shown to offer a certain level of protection against Aedes mosquitoes, making it a safe and effective alternative to chemical-based repellents.
The campaign urges parents to take comprehensive preventive measures, such as wearing long-sleeved clothing and maintaining clear surroundings both inside and outside homes to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites.
