Kuala Lumpur, July 27: Sunset Rollercoaster, the Indie-Pop band from Taiwan, has made history by becoming the first Taiwanese band to collaborate with Spotify, the global leading audio platform. They released two exclusive Spotify Singles, featuring reimagined versions of their songs “Candlelight” and “In My Head (腦海中).” Produced exclusively for Spotify, these intimate and stripped-back versions offer listeners a unique experience, including special footage of the recordings at Spotify Studios in Los Angeles.
Comprised of Tseng Kuo-Heng (vocals/guitar), Chen Hung-Li (bass), Lo Tsun-Lung (drums), Wang Shao-Hsuan (keyboard), and Huang Hao Ting (saxophone), Sunset Rollercoaster’s infectious DIY spirit and distinct musical style have gained them global recognition, including a debut at Coachella this year. With their poetic lyrics, the band has amassed over 1.2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, spanning the United States, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, and more, proving that language and genre boundaries are becoming less distinct in the global music landscape.
Sunset Rollercoaster expresses their creativity and courage in exploring new sounds and styles, from jazz-pop to electro-indie, in both English and Mandarin. They are excited to showcase the cool sounds and craftsmanship emerging from the Asian region. The band specially selected “Candlelight,” an electronic-focused song co-created with South Korean indie musician OHHYUK in 2020, and “In My Head (腦海中)” by another Taiwanese indie band, The Loophole (露波合唱團), for their Spotify Singles.
As part of Spotify’s Singles program, these exclusive releases provide an avenue for artist expression and engagement, furthering Spotify’s commitment to nurturing Asian talents and connecting artists with fans worldwide. Sunset Rollercoaster’s Spotify Singles will be available exclusively on the flagship Spotify Singles global hub, as well as playlists like New Music Friday and Hot Hits Taiwan, enhancing the global discovery and appreciation of Mandarin songs and diverse Asian genres, from Mandopop to Indie.
