Nine in 10 Australians believe home ownership is becoming increasingly unattainable for young Australians.
A recent nationwide survey, conducted by YouGov, revealed almost one fifth (31 per cent) of Aussies believe it’s too difficult to save for a deposit in the current climate, with Millennials and Gen X almost
twice as likely to share concerns of never attaining the Australian dream of home ownership than Baby Boomers.
In Australia, the dream of home ownership has long been linked to the belief of a better life and an expression of financial success, freedom and security.
While home ownership remains a key part of the Australian dream for 88 per cent of surveyed respondents, the dream has lost its shine with Millennials and Gen X.
Queensland has become a hot destination in recent years, with 15 percent of Aussies considering a move to the sunshine state in the next two- three years, and the Gold Coast is top of the list for four in 10 (40 per cent) of would-be movers.
Motivations for making the move to Queensland saw almost half of respondents (48 per cent) say it offered better weather conditions, and overall quality of life (47 per cent).
Interestingly, the average Aussie believes it would take at least $7.81 million for them to retire tomorrow and guarantee a future of financial freedom.
