Firefly Video Upgrade

Sydney, Dec 17: Adobe has rolled out a major update to its Firefly platform, introducing new AI video tools, additional partner models and a limited-time offer of unlimited generations for eligible subscribers.
“Our goal with Adobe Firefly is to give you one place where you can choose the right industry-leading model to generate assets for your project, then get exactly what you want by editing those assets with the creative tools and controls Firefly offers.”
The latest update focuses on giving creators more control over AI-generated video. Adobe is introducing new tools that allow precise edits within existing clips and greater control over camera motion, removing the need to regenerate entire scenes when only small changes are required.

A new Prompt to Edit feature for video enables users to refine generated clips using text-based instructions powered by Runway’s Aleph model. Instead of starting over, creators can make targeted changes such as:
“Remove the person on the left side of the frame.”
“Replace the background with a clean studio backdrop.”
“Change the sky to overcast and lower the contrast.”
“Zoom in slightly on the main subject.”
Adobe said the edits are applied directly to the original clip, allowing creators to preserve what works while refining specific details. Users can then add sound effects or music and continue editing in Firefly video editor or Adobe Premiere.

Firefly is also expanding camera motion controls. With the Firefly Video Model, users can upload a start-frame image alongside a reference video that demonstrates the desired camera movement, enabling more consistent and cinematic motion in generated footage.
In Firefly Boards, Adobe has added video upscaling through a partnership with Topaz Astra. The tool allows footage to be enhanced up to 1080p or 4K, making it suitable for modern platforms such as YouTube or for restoring older, lower-quality video. Adobe said users can continue working on other tasks while videos are being upscaled in the background.

The company is also broadening access to third-party image models. Firefly now includes FLUX.2 from Black Forest Labs, which offers photorealistic image generation, advanced text rendering and support for up to four reference images. FLUX.2 is available across Firefly tools, Photoshop’s Generative Fill and, from January, Adobe Express.
Adobe has also launched the public beta of Firefly video editor, a browser-based editing environment designed to turn AI generations into finished videos. The editor supports a lightweight, multi-track timeline, text-based editing for interview and talking-head content, and exports for both social and widescreen formats.
To coincide with the update, Adobe is offering unlimited image and video generations until January 15 for users on Firefly Pro, Firefly Premium, 7,000-credit and 50,000-credit plans. The promotion covers Firefly’s image and video models as well as partner models, including Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.2, Google’s Nano Banana and OpenAI’s GPT Image.
Adobe said the expanded tools and temporary unlimited access are designed to give creators more freedom to experiment and refine ideas without limits.
