Sydney, July 14: What better way to celebrate France’s national day – Bastille than with a bottle of its highly awarded bubbles.
Champagne Tsarine, from the world’s second-oldest Champagne house, has recently been awarded several gold medals in two of the globe’s prestigious wine competitions.
Launching in Australia just 18 months ago, Champagne Tsarine has now collected 42 awards and Tsarine Rosé Brut has won 50 awards after taking home the Gold Medals at the Berlin Wine Trophy Competition and the Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards.
The Berlin Wine Trophy competition is one of the largest and most important in the world where approximately 15,000 wines from some forty countries were blind-tasted earlier this year. The Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards had over 4,600 wines from 25 countries competing.
Both competitions had judges made up of sommeliers, oenologists, winegrowers, instructors in wine academies, restaurant owners, wine merchants and specialised journalists.
In contrast to almost the whole rest of the world, champagne sales in Australia actually grew in 2020. This momentum continued last year, with French champagne sales in Australia up by 9.9 million bottles, and Tsarine’s new award wins are sure to cement it as a local favourite in addition to its contingent of international fans.
Tsarine Premium is fresh and elegant champagne whose harmony is the result of a perfect balance among Chardonnay, Meunier and Pinot Noir wines. The Tsarine Rosé is a refreshing cuvée that combines the flavour and aromas of red fruits with notes of strawberry, redcurrant and blackcurrant. The Rosé has an equal composition of Chardonnay, Meunier and Pinot Noir grapes. The Premium Brut is perfect to pair with a tapas spread of savoury crackers and olives with cheeses like Abondance, Parmesan or Gruyère, while the Rosé works well with a refreshing spread of fruit, soft cheeses and colourful macaroons.
Tsarine comes from the world’s second-oldest Champagne house, Chanoine Frères, which was founded in Reims in 1730. Led by one of the first, and few, female winemakers in Champagne, Isabelle Tellier embodies a tradition of influential women in the Champagne house and has been at the helm of Tsarine Cellars for over 20 years. Bringing a feminine touch to the range, Isabelle’s wines have received over 70 awards in recognition of her development of fruity, balanced, and harmonious blends, of which the two Tsarine cuvées are prime examples.
