Building A Brand

By June Ramli

Sydney, Dec 13: It’s been two weeks since I last updated the on-goings production of my very own skincare and haircare line.
The good news as far as product development is concerned, it has been done and dusted.
I have finally got the labels correctly made and the payment is also done.
In terms of product creation, everything is now up to mark, there is nothing more I need to do when it comes to the development of the product – now comes the tough part, which is selling.
Where or who do I sell my fruits of labour?
But first, before we get into that, let’s get to the crux of why I am sharing this journey with you.
Well, for one it is because you can learn the ins and outs of creating a brand from me.
I will try to reveal everything I can to the readers of this esteemed website but some information might be withheld due to confidentiality arrangements I have with my suppliers, which is known as a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
An NDA is a legally binding contract that establishes a confidential relationship.
The party or parties signing the agreement agree that sensitive information they may obtain will not be made available to any others.

Back to my skincare line LazyBum Skincare and Blitz Hair Spray Oil
LazyBum Skincare has two products, which is facial cleanser (one product) and toner and moisturiser (two in one product) making it a two-step simple skincare routine.
I decided to simplify the process and create a line that would cater to women such as myself, single independent women who don’t give a hoot about skin care but just need something basic to get through the day.

Confessions of an entrepreneur.

So, with that in mind, I created a line on what is known as the LazyBum Skincare line.
Blitz on the other hand is a hair care oil that is in a spray form.
The name was taken on after a laundry soap brand my mother created while we were all still in Ipoh, Malaysia.
She created the laundry soap brand from her own will, with the help of a friend but the product didn’t stand the test of time owing to a myriad of reasons – read: family and work responsibilities.
Since the hair care oil is using my mum’s secret recipe, I decided to reuse the name that she had for her laundry detergent brand, years ago.
Now, back to the issue at hand, where do I sell my products?

To be honest, I have no idea.
There are two possibilities I have considered, one is via Iconic (the sister company of Zalora, Malaysia) or the other attempt is through Amazon’s FBA program.
At the moment, I am leaning towards Iconic.

Part two of the confessions.

I have sent out several emails to them and unfortunately have not even heard back from them nor have I received a single reply that my request had been looked into.
Why would I want to get into Iconic? Well, I leave that reasoning to next week.
So, be sure to stay tuned next week when I share more updates on the formation of these products.
