ShopeePay’s Generous Move

Kuala Lumpur, Nov 8: ShopeePay has announced a sponsorship of push carts and relevant collaterals for micro traders from the B40 income group as part of the #ShopeeGivesBack initiative.
This initiative aims to help traders kickstart their businesses again by providing a springboard for recovery for traders adversely affected by the pandemic.
“As the country’s e-commerce market grows steadily, user adoption of digital payment methods continues to accelerate,” Alain Yee, Head of ShopeePay Malaysia said.

“We are committed to supporting and digitising businesses, and connecting them with new customers whilst empowering them to further grow and scale on our platform.
“Some of our previous initiatives include ShopeePay adoption for Ramadan and Aidilfitri bazaar merchants this year.”
“By the end of the day, our goal is to contribute to our wider community by helping those in need to benefit from tech and the digital economy, at the same time supporting local pandemic recovery efforts.
“With the assistance of the state governments and also the Federal Territory Ministry, we hope to encourage more micro traders not only embrace digitalisation, but also to provide them with the tools, marketing support and exposure through campaigns like  our ongoing 11.11 Big Sale, to reignite their businesses.”
The push carts, which are equipped with built-in roofs, shelves and storage compartments, will be distributed to more than 100 traders throughout the month, in collaboration with the state governments of Terengganu, Perak, Penang, and Sarawak, as well as the Federal Territory Ministry.
The first handover ceremony to 20 micro traders took place in Kuala Berang, Terengganu on October 30.

While eight push carts are part of the Retail Sector Digitalisation Initiative (ReDi) by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, 12 will go to the traders chosen by the Terengganu state government.
ShopeePay looks to further assist in the digitalisation of these traders by enabling the acceptance of cashless transactions via the mobile wallet and offering specially curated incentives that will help the traders earn more.
This includes establishing a microsite featuring these traders on the Shopee app as well as ShopeePay Vouchers on Deals Near Me, offering RM3 cashback with a minimum spend of RM6 till December 31.
At the same time, ShopeePay users stand to receive RM3 cashback with a minimum spend of RM15 when they visit the stalls.
Deals Near Me is an online-to-offline (O2O) feature that uses location-based services to help users discover ShopeePay Vouchers by nearby merchants including bazaar stalls, cafes, restaurants, and services.

Editors’ Note: B40 or Bottom 40 refers to a Malaysian household that earns less than RM4, 850 a month.
