Jakarta, Oct 5: A pioneer batch of postgraduate students have started their masters degree at Monash University in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The first cohort of masters students of the well-known Melbourne university would be trained in the fields of Data Science, Public Policy and Management, Urban Design and Business Innovation.
Monash University Indonesian Pro Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Andrew Maclntyre said the physical establishment of the campus which is the first foreign university to operate in the country was symbolic of the university’s commitment towards Indonesia and the wider ASEAN region.
“The collective vision of Monash University and the Indonesian Government is to generate new knowledge that contributes powerfully to Indonesia’s social, technological and economic development,” he said.
Monash University, Indonesia’s inaugural Chief Operations Officer, Tantia Dian Permata Indah said the university’s enviable reputation for excellence will see it strengthen research and education links between Australia and Asia.
“This is a momentous day, not just for Monash University and the students who now have access to a world-class graduate education at our Indonesia campus, but for our entire ecosystem of engaged industry, academia, government and alumni, who together, will make a distinctive impact on Indonesia’s development.
“Monash University is well recognised in the Asia-Pacific for its excellence as a leading global university, and Monash’s establishment in Indonesia will significantly strengthen Australia-Asia ties and enable positive change. I look forward to being part of that change,” she said.
The campus aims to take in about 2,000 students annually and is currently accepting applications for next year.
